Llansawel returned to action after a month’s absence when Cwmaman Institute were welcomed to Cwrt Herbert. The lack of match action could have proved to be a concern to the home management duo of Vowles and Colwill prior to kick off but the benefit of the break has allowed the squad to shake off some niggling injuries with only long term casualty’s Rob James, Ryland Duffield and Daniel Triggs (Suspended) not available.
Sawel gave a competitive debut to Ben Bromam and welcomed new signing Josh Tobin in goal after an impressive debut for the youth team last weekend at Merthyr Tydfil. Sawel took a little time to settle understandably after the enforced break and it was the visitors who looked more productive in the opening half hour. The home side began to find their feet and some good work from both wingers Billy Timothy and then Steve Jones caused the Cwmaman defence some problems.
In warm conditions both teams continued to cancel each other out and has the first half drew to a close it was a case of defenders on top in a half which both teams were unable to make any significant impact.
Sawel introduced Gareth Jones at half time and shortly afterwards added Gareth Vaughan, which proved to give the home side added potency going forward. Although Sawel pressed and continued to put the visitors defence under pressure they failed to capitalise on their possession by making the all-important breakthrough. The home sides irritation increased has the final whistle grew nearer and some fussy refereeing only fuelled their frustration.
Sawel won a succession of late corners but still they couldn't find the breakthrough and it ended in disappointment for the home side while the away management conceded that they were happy in the end to leave with a point.
